Okay, I’m passionate about this topic, so I’ll try to be short and sweet vs. blab on and on!
I take clients to the Doctor’s office weekly. No, we don’t just drop them off. We escort them
from door to door and come with pen & paper to take notes (IF they want us IN the appointment –
most seniors do), a of bottle water for them, Kleenex and a few oldies CD’s (like Patsy Cline)
if they care to listen along the way.
Personally, I’ve dealt with more issues about “the staff in an office” than the Doctor.
I told my own Doctor (Dr. Gil Kim in Fairfax VA - who is fantastic) a brief horror story about
a recent visit to an office with a senior patient to a dermatologist office at the Washington Hospital.
He had an excellent point for all of us. Two simple words “Speak Up” He said don’t let things like that go,
if a Doctor cares about his practice he’ll deal with issues, if he doesn’t … you probably don’t want to keep him as a Doctor.
I did speak up (to the staff while at the office and to the Dr. in writing) as my client and I
were treated horribly by his staff. Ironically when we went downstairs to have tests done we bumped
into another three disgruntled “new” clients also and when we returned for two other visits we saw a few
more clients being treated the same way. Apparently this is “lifestyle” vs. “incident” at this office.
A few online options for you to check out before going to an office (or if you need to rate a Doctor’s office)
are RateMDs.com another geared to rating the STAFF of the Doctor’s office is:
Physician Reports and of course you can always “Write a Review” via Google
“Health Grades” you’ll have to pay for the reports but you can get a good overview about the Dr’s background and provide your own ratings.
Stay healthy and keep your senior parents out of those Dr’s office alone!
