Pull Together
I’ve always thought the idea of “co-ops” was a grand idea. I did it to a degree with friends and neighbors back when I was in my early 20’s trying to save money in various ways. I saw it as saving time, money, gas and uniting friends, family and neighbors. All of which I needed and enjoyed.
I think I was right on and I’ve gotten away from a really great idea and one that worked well. I’ve lived in the same neighborhood for 6 years now (that’s the longest I’ve lived anywhere as an adult) and I know quite a few neighbors but really want to “unite” more and get to know each other better. A few weeks ago I organized a “Neighbors Meet Up” and our first introduction 13 RSVPed. Two ended up unable to make it due to schedule changes and illness, but I look forward to meeting them in November (when our next get together will be) We’re making soup together and everyone will bring an ingredient). We’re all going to attempt to get together every month.
The idea behind that isn’t just to get to know each other but “open the door” to helping each other. Don’t you help people you know? Run errands for them? Take them to the Dr? Pick them up or drop them off for surgery? Take them soup when ill or gather packages for them when out of town? Sure! Isn’t it easier to borrow a “cup of sugar” from someone you know then to knock on a neighbor’s door you don’t know and ask them for sugar?
Stay tune tomorrow for what I want to see happen
