Non Medical Transportation

Errand LogoErrand LogoI had so many senior clients that needed to be taken to the Doctor I acquired the proper insurance to do so to accommodate this need and had cute cards made up which have "To the Doctor's Office We Go" written across the top. Basically, its non-medical transportation. Since doing so I've seen a few companies pop up. Most of which (well, that I know about) don't go beyond taking them to the Doctor and certainly don't "escort" them in to the Doctor, make sure the follow up visit is scheduled for them (be it their next 6 month dental cleaning or sometimes a Doctor wants to see them a few weeks from the one they were just at or make sure other appointments get set).  Often people go to the Doctor and that domino's into 1-3 other appointments needed such as X-Rays, MRI's, Surgeon and other Specialist before a decision is reached as to how to move forward. I've dealt with so many people that are tired, confused, in pain or are having trouble with memory (which is sometimes just due to stress vs. dementia) and they truly have trouble dealing with "everyday tasks"

I was in a Doctor's office with "Steve" once and after the Dr walked out we went out to the waiting room, sat down and I made 4 other appointments for him sitting in the waiting room. He looked at me as if I'd just accomplished winning a marathon and said "My gosh Rebekah, I never could have gotten that done by myself or so fast!" God's honest truth is (not to give honors to myself) is he couldn't, can and doesn't. It's simply too daunting.

So how many people are going without because it's overwhelming to get something done? A lot!

We charge for up to 2 hours of time. The companies I've discovered are picking up, dropping off and asking the client to call when they are ready to be picked up for $75 to $95. We also help people who may live in town, but not know anyone here to ask. Kind of hard to ask co-workers (that you might not know well or want them to know your business) to take you to the Doctor or to surgery.

After we leave the Doctor's office with them we also stop to get their prescriptions (or if in pain drop them off first and then run the errand), make sure they are taken care of for lunch and see they get back in the house okay.

If you know anyone who needs non-medical transportation, let us know because...

Also a few places that might be able to use us locally (or you should check out) are:

•    Dr. Wayne Miles, Sedation Dentistry  in Reston (and YUM...check out these recipes!)
•    Dr. Csaba Magassy, Plastic Surgeon in McLean
•    Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics in Reston - I love their tag line "Moving Lives Forward"
•    The Urology Group in Reston - who treats cancers, prostate, bladder and kidney cancer, etc.

To the Doctor's office we go!
